In an exclusive report by the Global Science and Technology Report, it was revealed that Taiwan-based Hon Hai Precision Industry has initiated its full-scale investment in the United States. On July 26, Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou made a formal announcement at the White House press conference in Washington, stating the company’s intention to invest $10 billion in a series of projects, including the construction of a large LCD panel factory in Wisconsin. This move aims to create jobs in the U.S., reduce trade imbalances, and align itself strategically with President Trump's agenda while establishing a production base near China.
At the press conference held in the White House, Chairman Gou was seen bending slightly and firmly clasping Trump's hand. He expressed his commitment to realizing the vision of American manufacturing, emphasizing the importance of starting with a panel factory and building production bases for 8K and 5G technologies in the U.S.
The image accompanying the article shows President Trump shaking hands with Chairman Gou during the event at the White House.
Over the next four years, Hon Hai plans to invest $10 billion to construct what is expected to become the world's most advanced "10.5th generation" LCD panel factory. This factory will not only produce large-screen TVs but also incorporate cutting-edge panel and imaging technologies into the development of medical devices and autonomous vehicles, fostering an ecosystem for these industries. The technological expertise acquired from Sharp in 2016 will play a crucial role in supporting these ambitious plans.
Hon Hai, currently China's largest exporter with the U.S. as its primary consumer market, has established numerous large factories across China. Since the early 2000s, the company has successfully secured orders for smartphone OEMs from the U.S., driving rapid expansion. However, faced with rising labor costs, Hon Hai has been compelled to undergo a strategic shift. The U.S. is now viewed as the next growth phase following China.
It is worth noting that several states, including Wisconsin, were in fierce competition to attract Hon Hai’s investment. Ultimately, Wisconsin emerged victorious after Chairman Gou engaged in direct discussions not only with President Trump but also with state governors, securing favorable terms regarding land use and energy costs.
One critical question remains: Can a reliable supply chain for components and production equipment be established in the future? Concurrently, Hon Hai is constructing the world's largest panel factory in Guangzhou, China. Additionally, mainland Chinese firms are aggressively expanding their production capacities, leading to a shortage of available panel supply.
This strategic move by Hon Hai represents a significant milestone in its global operations, further solidifying its position as a key player in the technology and manufacturing sectors.
The water glass shell process has low cost, simple operation, and low requirements for raw materials. The basic feature of the process is the use of paraffin-stearic acid low-temperature mold material, and the use of water glass as the binder in the process of shell making. In terms of shell process, its surface quality is average, and its dimensional accuracy is not as high as that of silica sol process, but because of its unique cost, it is widely used in some civil and low-precision internal combustion engines in my country.
