Last week, a unique translation gadget caught my attention on WeChat. At first glance, I was pretty impressed, thinking it must be incredibly powerful. Immediately after, I noticed several people posting links left and right. Turns out it was the translation device from Information Flight. They claim it’s capable of speech recognition at a level of 666, which sounds like no small feat. Curious about its capabilities, I decided to get one myself, despite the price tag of 2,999 RMB. Over the past few days, I’ve had some hands-on experience with it and wanted to share my thoughts.
Reasons for Purchase:
Honestly, there wasn’t much reasoning behind my decision to buy it. It just seemed like an interesting product, and I didn’t want to miss out on something potentially cool. Plus, the idea of having a dedicated translation device intrigued me.

The device came in a straightforward package, including the main unit, a charging cable, a transformer, and some documentation. Interestingly, there was no protective cover included. Initially, I didn’t pay much attention to the transformer, but I recently heard a story about someone whose hard drive and card reader exploded due to voltage differences. So, when using non-original charging equipment, it’s crucial to double-check the current and voltage specifications.
The transformer outputs at 5V1A, similar to most smartphones. It uses a MicroUSB port instead of the newer Type-C. After playing around with it, I realized that this machine doesn’t support in-phone translation. It requires an internet connection to function properly.
There are three ways to connect to the internet: via Wi-Fi, through a mobile app using Bluetooth, or by inserting a Nano SIM card. This setup puzzled me a bit. If I need to connect it to a mobile phone anyway, why not just use the mobile app directly for translation?
Personal Experience:
Before receiving the device, I discussed it with some friends. I personally believe that older users might find it challenging to navigate various apps. Thus, a simpler, more user-friendly device could come in handy in certain situations.
This device aims to provide peace of mind to parents and allow them to travel confidently. Once turned on by pressing and holding the switch for two seconds, the machine searches for a network before it can be used.
The volume keys are somewhat underwhelming. The manual suggests setting the volume around four, but honestly, the sound quality isn’t great. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is useful for private listening without disturbing others.
Initial Impressions:
I watched a short video demonstrating its capabilities. While it looked impressive in the video, my personal experience hasn’t been as smooth. I suspect the video was more of an advertisement, appealing to early adopters like myself.
Observations:
1. The English translation has issues, particularly with slang, accents, and long sentences that don’t align with punctuation. As mentioned in the product description, it’s best to use standard language.
2. The Chinese-English translations are decent, with fast speeds. Most sentences are accurately translated, though my name seems to confuse it.
3. There’s a noticeable delay of about half a second. Given the process involves audio pickup, data transmission, cloud translation, and output, this is understandable.
4. Simultaneous interpretation isn’t supported, which limits its use in real-time conversations.
5. The requirement for constant internet access is inconvenient for me, especially since I’m currently preparing for my IELTS exam.
6. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend purchasing it at this stage.
In conclusion, while it’s an intriguing concept, the current version has its limitations. I’ll update this post once I explore more features in a follow-up video.
