Toshiba Lighting 12,000 hours long life fluorescent lamp listed in July


Toshiba Lighting has developed a bulb-shaped fluorescent lamp "Neo Ball Z REAL PRIDE" with a rated life of 12,000 hours. The company's previous products have a rated life of 10,000 hours, and this time the product is 1.2 times, achieving a longer life. Compared with incandescent bulbs, the rated life is about 12 times that of the latter. The illuminating colors are three types of bulb color, enamel white, and neon color, all of which are 3-wavelength type with high color rendering. The rated power consumption is 10W, and the total luminous flux is 810lm for the bulb color, 780lm for the white product, and 730lm for the twilight color. Listed on July 1, 2008. In order to achieve long life, the new product has thickened the electrode coil and increased the coating amount of the emissive material. In addition, the coil is optimized to prevent scattering of the emitted material when the lamp is turned on. Because of the larger coils, the diameter of the fluorescent tube has increased from 8mm to 9mm. By increasing the diameter of the fluorescent tube, the voltage at the time of lighting becomes more stable. As the diameter of the fluorescent tube becomes larger, the luminous efficiency generally decreases. In order to compensate for this defect, the length (discharge length) of the spiral fluorescent tube was increased from 300 mm to 400 mm. This ensures the same level of luminous efficiency as previous products.

The bulb is made of a resin material, making longer discharge times possible

The company has also worked hard on how to insert a spiral fluorescent tube into a light bulb. The bulb referred to herein refers to a milky white cover covering the entire spiral fluorescent tube. The original type of bulb was used, and the spiral fluorescent tube was inserted into the bulb through the metal seal of the bulb. However, when this method is employed, since the diameter of the metal seal has been previously determined, there is a limit in lengthening the discharge length of the spiral fluorescent tube. This is because, after the discharge length is extended, the spiral fluorescent tube becomes thick as a whole and cannot be loaded into the bulb from the metal seal.

Instead of using an integrated bulb, this time it is divided into upper and lower parts. After the spiral fluorescent tube is placed in the lower bulb, the upper bulb is covered and the upper and lower joints are melted. With this method, a larger spiral fluorescent tube can be inserted, so that a spiral fluorescent tube having a longer discharge length can be used. In addition, the bulb is made of a resin material.
