The first flexible AMOLED display

Recently, Plastic Logic officially announced its latest generation of research results. The company has developed a truly flexible AMOLED display, which for the first time combines the back panels of a functional all-plastic AMOLED display device. This latest flexible AMOLED display can be used exclusively for electronic devices that require bending, such as smart watches or smart bracelets. At present, it can display up to 256 shades of gray at most.

This all-plastic AMOLED flexible display can also provide a refresh rate of 30 frames per second, which is enough to display text and video. From the demo video, we can see that this new type of flexible AMOLED screen will greatly promote the development of wearable devices such as smart watches that need to be worn on the wrist.

However, this kind of flexible AMOLED display is still in the development stage, and there is no plan to promote it for ordinary consumers or commercial fields. At present, such display screens can only display black-and-white monochrome, and also distinguish other colors according to different shades, and temporarily cannot display such as red, green or blue. Nate Hoffelder of the Digital Reader website said that although only one color is currently available, this is a good start for the development of full-color flexible AMOLED screens. The original Plastic Logic technology will be applicable to devices such as e-readers.

In fact, this kind of screen was first introduced in 2010, but it hasn't attracted attention due to the continued popularity of the iPad. With the gradual rise of wearable devices, the concept of flexible screens has once again been noticed by everyone. Future Plastic Logic products will be used in billboards, curved electronic products and other fields.
