Do you think Google made a Pixel phone? No, there are watches

Tencent Digital (Compiled: Bear) Google's Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones have just been released, but now we are looking forward to Pixel smart watches. In fact, as early as July of this year, we heard for the first time that Google plans to give up Nexus to launch a brand new smart watch. Now, with the appearance of the Pixel smartphone, more news about Google's own smart watch has begun to come. In front of us.

From the current point of view, we are looking forward to two Google smart watches, code-named Angelfish and Swordfish, these two smart watches are equipped with the next generation of Android Wear 2.0 system, and uses a very simple and modern minimalist style design. However, unfortunately, there is not much news about these two smart watches at present, and the only source of exposure is the renderings and release time of the exposure of Evan Blass and Android Police.

Let's take a look at what messages we know so far about Google Pixel Smart Watch and Android Wear 2.0 system.

Appeared in early 2017

Not long ago, Evan Blass broke the news that Google will continue to launch its own brand of Android Wear system smart watches by March next year, and he said that Google's new smart watch will use the latest Android Wear 2.0 operating system.

Since time is set at the beginning of next year, there are probably two of the most likely time points. The first is the CES 2017 Consumer Electronics Show at the beginning of next year. From January 5th to August 8th, it is basically the best opportunity for consumer electronics products. The other is the MWC 2017 Barcelona World Mobile Conference from February 27 to March 2. From the current point of view, MWC may be more suitable for Google's smart watch debut.

However, Google may also choose to publish new products at its own conference. For example, the October 4 conference brought a Pixel smartphone. Therefore, Google may also choose to hold an independent conference for its smart watch at the beginning of the year.

Although Google’s I/O Conference is a very good time, it has already become the second quarter, but at present, apart from the time and the exposure of the Big God, the I/O Assembly is definitely a new smart watch. Hardware and Android Wear 2.0 system debut.

Round dial, two versions

According to the rendering of the Android Police exposure, these two simple smart watches are likely to be Pixel's future design style.

Obviously, the larger left side is the one code-named Angelfish, which has a larger display, physical buttons, while the other Swordfish is relatively small, and there is no physical crown button design. However, Swordfish's design style is also more concise. However, Android Police said that Google's MODE Android Wear will not support Angelfish.

Regarding size, the news said that Angelfish has a dial thickness of 14mm and a dial diameter of 43.5mm, which is slightly smaller than the 46mm of the Moto 360, but larger than the 52mm of the Apple Watch. The other Swordfish uses a more standard 42 mm to diameter dial with a thickness of 10.6 mm, which is 0.8 mm thicker than the Moto 360.

So far, we have only heard that Angelfish has a silver-gray color scheme called Titanium, while another Swordfish has silver, titanium, and rose gold.

It's also worth noting that although Google's two smart watches have a round dial design, they don't have a "tire screen" like the Moto 360. There is no black space at the bottom. You know, the design of Moto 360 brought great controversy to Motorola. Although this area is a compromise for internal design and components and sensors, we are glad to see from the rendering that Google did not commit the same mistake.

However, at present, we cannot determine the authenticity of this unique rendering. After all, considering the source of the rendering, there is still the possibility that this picture will appear variable. In addition, these two smart watches are still in the early development prototype stage, so not only the appearance will change, and may not even meet with us.

Xiaolong 1100/2100 processor

According to Android Police's news, Angelfish will be a smart watch that can be used independently and will be more powerful in terms of hardware performance, including 4G/LTE modulation to demodulator, GPS and heart rate sensors. In contrast, Swordfish will shrink in function.

Although we only know these features at the moment, we can guess based on these newses that Pixel smart watches are likely to use Qualcomm's latest processors. After all, Google has always had a good relationship with Qualcomm. Plus, both Pixel and Pixel XL are using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, so for smart watch products, Qualcomm products will also be selected.

At present, it is very likely that Google will be equipped with different Qualcomm processors for the two smart watches. As early as February of this year, Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 210 processor designed for wearable devices, and the ASUS ZenWatch 3 and Fossil Q series of smart watches have been adopted.

Then in May this year, Qualcomm announced the launch of the Snapdragon 1100, which supports Cat.1, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and audio input. At the same time, iZat positioning technology is built in, which enables more accurate indoor positioning, speed, and time statistics.

Obviously, the Nine Dragons Wear 1100 is specifically designed for health tracking devices, while the Nine Dragons Wear 820 is more advanced and is likely to be used on more sophisticated devices such as smart watches.

Of course, both processors are manufactured using a 28nm process and support 4G connectivity. Although the Wear 1100 only supports a simple 2D user interface, the Wear 2100 can support 640 x 480 resolution and 60 fps. At the same time Wear 2100 also supports faster LPDDR3 RAM (compared with Wear 1100), built-in four Cortex-A7 cores and Adreno 304 GPU, support OpenGL ES 3.0. In contrast, the Wear 1100 has only a single-core Cortex-A7 core and integrated GPU.

We hope that Google will certainly be able to use the Snapdragon Wear 2100 on a Pixel smart watch. Of course, if Qualcomm releases a new wearable device processor next year, then Google will naturally continue to follow suit.

However, we also cannot ignore Samsung. The South Korean electronics giant has just announced that it will begin mass production of the new Exynos 7 Dual 7270 processor. The Exynos 7270 uses two Cortex-A53 cores, integrates an LTE baseband (Cat. 4/2CA), and communication modules support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GNSS. Positioning system. Compared to 28nm, the power efficiency of the Exynos 7270 is increased by 20%, and there is a significant increase in endurance. So this is also the biggest advantage compared to Qualcomm Wear 2100.

Android Wear 2.0 system

As we mentioned above, Android Police's news that Google will preload the latest Android Wear 2.0 operating system for Pixel Smart Watch. The first generation of Android Wear was released as early as March 2016, but the current situation is not very good. There is still a long way to go.

At the 2016 I/O Developer Conference, Google officially announced the Android Wear 2.0 system, and will add many new features, such as an independent app running, support for handwriting recognition, virtual keyboard, OLED screen to increase the black background (power saving) And the new round UI and so on. And now that the Android Wear 2.0 system has only a developer preview and only a handful of smart watches are supported, the full version of Android Wear 2.0 is expected to meet consumers next year.

It is reported that due to the use of the Android Wear 2.0 system, Angelfish will support the running of independent applications, so the basic data can be processed without the need of a smartphone, and this is basically similar to the characteristics of the new Apple Watch. It is unclear whether another Swordfish also supports this feature.

At the same time, Android Police also said that there will be a new Google Assistant voice assistant. Google’s new voice assistant can be extended in functionality and can conduct two-way conversations similar to Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, and Microsoft’s Cortana. Google Assistant has now been integrated into platforms such as Google Allo and Google Home smart home speakers.

price

The current news about prices is really nothing, but we can basically estimate that the price of Google's new smart watches will be 149.99 pounds (about RMB1230) by referring to the current prices of mainstream smart watches on the market. Between £349.99 (approximately RMB 2,870).
