Polestar's new car achieves high-performance electrification

Polestar, the high-performance division of Volvo Cars, has officially launched as an independent brand. This marks a significant step in the company's strategy to focus on high-performance electric vehicles. On October 17, the brand will unveil its first model in China, introducing not only its new product but also details about future products, industrialization plans, and business strategies. The launch is expected to attract attention from both enthusiasts and industry experts. The collaboration between Volvo and Polestar dates back to 1996, with Polestar becoming a part of the Volvo group in 2015 after being fully acquired. As an independent brand, Polestar will no longer use the Volvo logo and will instead introduce its own branding. However, it will continue to benefit from Volvo’s R&D and engineering expertise, allowing it to compete effectively in the global premium electric vehicle market. Thomas Ingenlath, former Senior Vice President of Design at Volvo, has taken the helm as CEO of Polestar. He has played a key role in shaping the design language of Volvo, and his leadership is expected to bring fresh innovation to the brand. Jonathan Goodman, previously the Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications at Volvo, now serves as COO of Polestar. Dr. Shen Feng, President of Volvo Car China R&D, has been appointed as the Global Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Polestar. With extensive experience in research and development, he will oversee critical areas such as R&D, procurement, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and IT. His leadership is crucial for the growth of Polestar in the Chinese market. Although Polestar was initially expected to debut a two-door coupe at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, the launch was postponed. However, on October 17, the world will finally get to see the real thing. With Thomas Ingenlath leading the design team, the new car is expected to deliver exceptional performance and style. The upcoming model will be powered by Volvo’s T8 E-drive hybrid system, combining a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged petrol engine with an electric motor. While the current system delivers impressive power, the Polestar version is expected to be more performance-oriented. The gasoline engine could reach up to 324 horsepower, while the motor adds another 81 horsepower, resulting in a combined output of around 600 horsepower. This powerful setup positions Polestar to challenge established brands like Mercedes-AMG, BMW M, and Audi Sport in the high-performance electric segment.
