From October 10th to 14th, a groundbreaking test flight took place at Dongying Airport in Shandong, China. For the first time, the independently developed Beidou satellite navigation system conducted trials on 103 ARJ21-700 aircraft. The test was a complete success and marked a significant step forward in the integration of domestic technology into civil aviation.
This flight test officially opened the door for the application of China's own satellite navigation system in civilian passenger aircraft, ushering in a new era for domestic civil aviation navigation. It represents a major leap in technological self-reliance and sets the stage for future advancements in the field.
For the first time, this test flight successfully combined four key "localizations": the domestic Beidou satellite navigation system, the ground-based augmentation system, the airborne navigation system, and the large-scale civil aircraft platform. This integration is expected to accelerate the international standardization of the Beidou system in civil aviation, while also supporting broader application and certification efforts.
This marks the first time that the Beidou system has been applied in the civil aviation sector, and it is also the first time that Chinese civil aircraft have used a domestically developed navigation system. This achievement is a milestone in the integration of two major national aerospace projects and highlights China's growing capabilities in advanced navigation technologies.
According to China Commercial Aircraft, the test was conducted on the ARJ21-700 platform and met both international civil aviation standards and China’s own technical requirements. The Beidou-based ground-based augmentation system successfully completed performance verification for Class I precision approach and tested the short message function. The results showed that the performance of domestic systems has reached levels comparable to foreign counterparts, with fast and accurate positioning capabilities leading globally.
This successful trial not only demonstrates the maturity of China's navigation technology but also lays a solid foundation for future development and widespread adoption in the civil aviation industry.
