More alarmingly, if a hacker gains access to a user’s LG account, they could potentially breach the SmartThinQ system linked to it. This would allow them to control all smart home devices connected through the platform, creating a serious security risk for users.
Fortunately, this vulnerability was discovered by researchers from Check Point Security Software Group’s Threat Prevention Experts. LG is currently working on a fix, and users are strongly advised to update their devices to the latest firmware version (V1.9.23) as soon as possible. It’s also recommended to download the official app from trusted sources only.
With over one million units sold, the LG Hom-Bot series is one of the most popular robotic vacuums on the market. While no major data breaches have been reported yet, this incident serves as a wake-up call for both manufacturers and consumers about the importance of securing smart home devices.
