"The 'Internet of Everything' marks the next phase in the evolution of mobile internet. However, the security of IoT devices has raised growing concerns in recent years. Imagine a future where all your home appliances are connected to the internet—once compromised, your entire privacy could be at risk. From smart door locks to robotic vacuum cleaners, these devices are now part of our daily lives, but they also bring new vulnerabilities."
According to a report by Forbes, LG's Hom-Bot series of robotic vacuums recently exposed a critical vulnerability known as "HomeHack." This flaw allows hackers to remotely take control of the robot and access its built-in camera, potentially capturing video footage from users' homes.

The exposure video showed that hackers could even manipulate the camera angle and adjust the focus, giving them full control over what was being recorded.
More alarmingly, if a hacker gains access to a user’s LG account, they could potentially breach the SmartThinQ system linked to it. This would allow them to control all smart home devices connected through the platform, creating a serious security risk for users.
Fortunately, this vulnerability was discovered by researchers from Check Point Security Software Group’s Threat Prevention Experts. LG is currently working on a fix, and users are strongly advised to update their devices to the latest firmware version (V1.9.23) as soon as possible. It’s also recommended to download the official app from trusted sources only.
With over one million units sold, the LG Hom-Bot series is one of the most popular robotic vacuums on the market. While no major data breaches have been reported yet, this incident serves as a wake-up call for both manufacturers and consumers about the importance of securing smart home devices.
