With the rapid growth of LED panels, the demand for LED chips is growing. Taiwan's panel leader AUO has decided to invest NT$30 billion in the planning of four LED chip factories for its subsidiary Lunda Electronics. Construction is expected to start in the fourth quarter and start production at the end of 2010. Ronda’s chairman Chen Xuanbin said that Ronda’s position in supplying AUO LED chips will become heavier and heavier.
Recently, AUO has purchased 2.255 billion yuan to purchase MOCVD machines to expand LED chip equipment for the Londa Bamboo Plant. In conjunction with the construction plan of Longda Electronics, the China Science and Technology Administration initially decided to take back about 34 hectares of land built by Maode and Lijing in Houli Park, and provide them to Lunda, Lianxiang, Dry Cloth and the needs of the factory. It is used by manufacturers such as Fujia, among which Ronda is expected to use about 10 hectares of land to build factories. The China Science and Technology Administration said that with the arrival of Ronda, Zhongke will become a major producer of LED chips in the future.
At present, due to the small size of Ronda, the LED chips used in AUO panels are mainly purchased from LED chip suppliers in Japan and Taiwan. However, with the continuous expansion of usage and demand of AUO, “self-made within the group†has become a trend. With the expansion of the chip of Ronda, it is fearing that LED chip suppliers such as Jingdian and Yuyuan will be seriously affected.
By the end of 2010, AUO will all convert NB panels into LED backlights, and the Group's demand for LEDs will be very large. AUO has occupied 70% of the world's thin and light notebook computer panels. In addition to the rapid expansion of LED chips, AUO Group has also increased the capacity of LED packaging plants, including Kai Ding and Wei Li Meng, and plans to invest. The amount will be synchronized with the expansion of the plant, complete integration of LED upstream and downstream supply chain.
