Pass the five levels, check the sound system

Most audio fans will have this experience: how do you feel good recording at home, but how to get someone else's home is not very good? The same, listening to someone else's home, I feel good recordings, and getting to my own home is not so good? Why is there such a result? The problem is clearly in the word "Bias".
Everyone's sound system will be biased somewhat, why is this "biased"? The fact is that most people in their homes will have their own sound system that has a particular tendency to one side because of equipment mix and space factors. This feature can be called "biased". What will happen to "biased"? Some CD recordings are just right for your "bias", while others are not. If you are suitable, you will think that it is a good recording. If you are not suitable, you will feel that the recording is not good. Usually, the sound system is more "biased". When listening to music, the more CDs you have, the better the recording is. Most CDs will feel that the recording is not acceptable. The less the audio system is "biased", the wider the recording effect will be accepted.
Perhaps you will ask, is this because there is no "bias", you will feel that all the recordings are very good? Do not! There is a general standard for the quality of the recording, and it will not become a good recording because there is no "bias". What I want to say is that the more there is no "biased" sound system, the more it is acceptable for the recording effects of various CDs, and it will not be felt. However, if you want to seriously judge whether the recording is good or bad, there is still a high score. Of course, the recording effect is always a relatively small party.
Bias will make people think that only I am right, the rest are wrong.
What harm does the audio system have if it is "biased"? First, because of the "bias" of the sound system, we tend to be blinded and not knowing ourselves. It is easy to fall into the trap of adjusting the sound toward the tip of the horn. Secondly, because of the "bias", we tend to have a tendency to sing a certain kind of recording, and it is incompatible with others. I often emphasize that the most important thing to adjust the sound is "the overall balance." If the sound is out of balance, it is a serious distortion of the music that the musicians have painstakingly played. When the music is distorted, the music played by the first-rate musicians will become the same as the musicians who are not in the stream. Similarly, if your audio system is "biased", the more balanced your sound balance is, the more distorted it is. In such a situation, you have a real chance to enjoy the beauty of music.
How can we avoid the "bias" of the sound system? Here I want to stress once again that everyone's audio system will inevitably be "biased" and there will be no exceptions. The point of the question is, do you have to know where the "bias" is? Then try to adjust in the right direction to reduce the degree of "biased". This way, you will be able to enjoy balanced musicality. If you can't reflect on your "bias", you will often fall into the fog of "others are wrong, only me." So, how can we avoid the "bias" of the sound system? First of all, you must open your heart and admit that there will be a "biased" fact. Then, with a broader inclusiveness, review the differences between your audio system and others.
Five CDs have come back as a tool for detecting biased tools. For a person with little experience in audio, even if you have the heart to test how much "bias" you have, you may not be able to start. Here, I provide five CDs as a tool to test the degree of "bias" of my audio system. With these five easy-to-buy CDs, you can do cross-tests for yourself. Perhaps, you would say: Are these five CDs selected under your own "bias"? Can you use my bias to cure my bias? You make sense, but I have tried to reduce the possibility of this bias. Because these five CDs have been tested on many different occasions, not just on my own system. Also, these five CDs have been tested on my electrostatic headset system. I still remember that I can adjust the sound to "use headphones as a teacher"? Because the earphones suffer the least pollution, it only passes through the source, without the pollution of the front, back, speakers and space. Its credibility should be the highest. Therefore, the five CDs I selected should be used as a biased test tool.
The first level, the high frequency can not be sharp and harsh, the CD used to have the sweetness of the first level is "four seasons." This "Four Seasons" is led by Giuliano Carmignola (Divox CDX 79404). He devoted himself to the study of music in the early 18th century, and used the instruments of the time and the manuscripts of the time to try to understand the musical interpretations of the time. Therefore, although the version of the four seasons is full of the world, his interpretation is very creative (or return to the origin), full of vitality, no stagnation, is a very worthy performance. Because the instrument used in this orchestra is an antique instrument, its sound lines are clearer and thinner than the modern string group, and the tone is harder. However, the clear sound and bright sound that it emits, as well as the sweet taste, are also very charming. Moreover, the orchestra's compilation is very small, only eight or nine people, so the performance of each instrument is very clear.
When listening to this CD, if you sound like the sound is too hard, the string only shows a thin, sharp and harsh line, and you can't enjoy the sweetness at all. That means your sound system is biased too bright and sharp, and the amount of intermediate and low frequencies may not be enough. Also, since the orchestra does not have a low-frequency "heavy weapon", the entire CD is kept in a clear, transparent, light and smart atmosphere. Under such an atmosphere, you can feel the slight elasticity of the low frequency band.
Remind you again that the quality of this CD is clear and bright, but with a sweet taste. If there is no sweetness, or if there is more low frequency, it is not right. What's more, it sounds sharp and harsh.
The second level, the intermediate frequency should be full, and the second level must be clear. I will use this "single choir" (Philips 456 653-2) written in the "Editor's Private CD". This CD is a male choir composed of tenors, baritone and bass, and their range is fully included in the mid-range. If you listen to this CD and feel that the intermediate frequency is too thick, it is too thick to be opened, which means that the lower end of the middle frequency band (near the low frequency) is too much. So much sense of volume not only makes the sound dye, but also slows down the sound and suppresses the sense of life. At this point, the music you hear will be dull and dull.
If you listen to this CD, you feel that the sound is not full and rich, you can't feel the handsome harmony of the male chorus, and the chorus is not full of the entire sound field. Obviously, your audio system has a weak intermediate frequency. As long as the intermediate frequency is weak, your sound will change from color to black and white, and most of the music will not be heard for a long time.
A truly outstanding chorus conductor will make the chorus have a harmonious harmony and clear voice performance. This CD has these two advantages. In fact, this is the balance of chorus. If you listen to this CD, you feel that "the tablet is sluggish" and cannot be touched by its music, that is, there is a problem in the middle band. By the way, although the mid-range is the most important part, it cannot be unrestrained. If the mid-range is too much, it will still destroy the overall balance of music. You must not check this.
The third level, the low frequency should be flexible, not turbid.
The CD used in the third level is Janis Ian's "Breaking Silence" (Morgan Creek 2959-20023-2). From the first beginning, the low-frequency part should show the elasticity and Q-ability of the dive ability, and it is better to have the low-frequency shadow. The so-called "shadow" is the sense of hearing in which the low frequency naturally extends and disappears. If the extension is unnatural, the low frequency will disappear, and there will be no shadow and no elasticity. I emphasize that you should find this feeling in every song on this CD.
If you are listening to the third and fourth heads, you still can't feel the low-frequency elasticity and shadow, and feel that the low-frequency sense is not enough. This means that your audio system lacks the proper amount of volume in the mid-low frequency and low-frequency parts. On the other hand, if you listen to the third and the fourth, you feel that the low frequency is too much, and you have begun to reach the point of turbidity, which means that the middle and low frequency and the low frequency are too much, and the control is too bad.
Please note that this CD will not be harsh in any way, and will not be cloudy. If you just don't get irritated or turbid, but you don't enjoy flexibility and Q, you can only say that "bias" is not serious, but it is not yet in the middle. If you are not only flexible and Q degree, but also can clearly hear the texture of low-frequency instruments, know what those instruments are making sound, then hit the hearts.
The fourth level, the details of the sound should be like the wings of the dragon in the vibration. The CD I want to use is Mendel's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (Preiwen directs the London Symphony Orchestra. EMI version). In the first "overture", there are many places in the string group that are both whispering and clear, just like a large group of dragonflies on the water's edge. If you hear the subtle performance of this string of strings without the violin texture, no sweetness, no clear transparency, and will not make you feel moved, it means your sound system is not sensitive enough. As for what would be not sensitive enough? May be on the horn.
In addition, the strength and weakness of this CD is quite strong. If you feel too noisy and too harsh when you play strong, the whole string group loses the beauty of the string, it means that the sound system is not strong or weak. Big. In such a clear situation, you may not get the subtle and magnificent beauty of most orchestral music.
In addition to the subtleties of the string, we also have to listen to the subtleties of woodwind. If the wood tube does not hear all kinds of subtle sounds (including buttons, blowing, etc.), the true texture of the wood tube will not come out, and the luster and sweetness of the wood tube will not come out. At this point, the beauty of the music you hear has been greatly reduced.
Vocals can also be used for testing on this CD. In the fourth paragraph, the vocals show that if the vocals are not live enough, the high and low stagnation response is not fast enough, it fully shows that your sound system has a living feeling, and the instantaneous reaction and speed are not enough.
Finally, add a tip. There are many places in this CD that have low-frequency hum, and if you can't hear the hum, it means that your audio system has low-frequency regenerative power. At this point, I believe that if you listen to this CD, you will feel that the low-frequency band is not enough, and the sound tends to be high. If you hear a strong and obvious buzz, it means that the low frequency band is excessive. The more appropriate situation is that it sounds very clear, but there is no sense of oppression, as if the low frequency of the organ hits, it will not interfere with the appreciation of music. If you don't know where to look for buzz, try it for 4 minutes and 10 seconds.
The fifth level, the overall balance is not enough?
There is no doubt that I want to choose the Beethoven's sixth symphony "The Pastoral" directed by Walter (Walter Conducts the Columbia Orchestra, CBS version). Here, I want to ask you to think about it. Will Beethoven write the pastoral as a very low-frequency music? No, because the symphony orchestra of that era did not have the scale of hundreds of people. The era was balanced by rationality. Will Walter command Beethoven's "Country" as a symphony of Mahler? Nor will it. Although Walter is a student of Mahler, his "landscape" is full of balanced harmony. So, if you hear a rough voice; you hear too much low frequency, it is already off.
In this CD, it can be said that every element of music has it. You should be able to enjoy the texture of the string group, whether it is a violin or a cello or a double bass. If you can't hear the texture and beauty of the string group, then it's not right. Also, is the string group you heard shiny? Is it sweet? Is the wood tube you hear shiny and sweet? If not, Walt's subtle balance has been destroyed by your sound system.
Finally, I have to ask, are you really listening to the performance of this CD? Still people are clouds, have to say moving? If you listen to this CD, you will always feel "sweet" and have "glossy", "vigorous", "life", "rich", "full" and "texture" (all seven items are required). The sound has always surrounded you, the whole music is not boring and tired, but you can deeply enjoy the balance between the sound and the music. That's right. At this point, even if your audio system is "biased," it is only a minor condition.
On the other hand, if you listen to it, you can't feel the beauty of the music I mentioned above. Instead, I doubt that there is something outstanding about the interpretation of this CD. If you suspect that the recording effect of this CD is fascinating, then This means that your audio system is quite "biased". "Mission" ruined the balance of beauty of the entire music.
Although I have listed five CDs to test the five levels, please don't misunderstand that the five CDs can only test those parts. In fact, these five CDs can fully enjoy the beauty of balanced music. As long as your audio system is not too "biased", you should feel that the recordings of these five CDs are very beautiful. If there is a "bias", these five CDs will sound problematic.
The most important thing to listen to is to be able to enjoy the beauty of music. Whether it is pop music or classical music, as long as it is balanced when reproducing music, they will be moving. If you have been struggling with the unpleasant mud, or always think that only a few CDs are good, please open your mind and start to correct your "bias"! |
