NIRA Dynamics' Road Surface Information software and its cloud solution, Cloud by NIRA, are designed to provide exactly that—real-time data on road surface conditions. Recently, NIRA Dynamics has partnered with Infocar to take the next step in bringing this innovative solution to market.
Gothenburg-Based Cloud Data Application
The Road Surface Information software continuously monitors road surface quality, detects potholes, and identifies varying levels of road flatness. What makes this system unique is that it uses the car's existing sensors, eliminating the need for additional hardware. This not only reduces costs but also makes the solution scalable and easy to implement.
To meet the rising demand for advanced driver assistance systems, the software was further enhanced to collect road data through the vehicle’s OBD (Onboard Diagnostic) interface. Last winter, over 10,000 kilometers of road data were successfully collected using this method. In the summer of 2016, NIRA Dynamics will collaborate with Infocar AB to expand the project. The data collection speed is expected to increase dramatically, reaching up to 24,000 kilometers per day.
With the support of NIRA’s own cloud solution, Cloud by NIRA, this data will be accessible to drivers, driver assistance systems, and road authorities. It can also serve as real-time navigation data based on weather conditions. In the long term, this data will play a crucial role in developing safer, more intelligent autonomous vehicles. By integrating real-world road conditions into the decision-making process, self-driving cars will become even more reliable and efficient.
