Intel: Inefficient microprocessor development in China

At the Research@IntelDay held in Mountain View, Mountain View, California on June 7th, the reporter had the opportunity to conduct an interview with Jesse Fang (Dr. Fang Zhixi) of the current Intel Labs China (ILC) Dean. Some interviews.

According to Dr. Jesse Fang, currently there are about 100 researchers in China who are stationed in Beijing. This figure is equivalent to 10% of all Intel researchers. This shows that Intel attaches great importance to the Chinese market. These researchers working in Beijing mainly research projects for embedded processors. This project is currently very hot in China, because a considerable number of people in the group do not have computers and they can never buy computers. Their favorite device is a smartphone. And tablet.

Jesse Fang stated that he was very impressed by the microprocessor research project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, but he believes that the current domestic research and development projects related to these teams are inefficient.

JesseFang said that at present, these research institutions in China only have one team at a time and conduct research and development at the same time. Jesse Fang thinks that the correct R&D model for a company should be that research and development are separate. Investigation and development belong to two completely different disciplines that require different systems of ideas and require different technical capabilities. So using a group of people to do all the tasks at the same time will definitely be very inefficient.

JesseFang said that usually research is to collect and process information. On the other hand, development is to convert this information into money.

At present, there are quite a number of non-factory companies in the Chinese market that have stared at Intel at the start-up and are working hard to develop microprocessors that are compatible with their MIPS architecture and have a graphics engine. In other words, these US/Chinese companies specialize in embedding. Processor graphics engine development.
