This beautiful island far away from the mainland of the motherland is called Nanji Island. It has many aliases, such as "Baihai Xianshan", "Bai Alpha Kingdom", "Blue Ranch" and "Sea Shennongjia".

Ordinary people yearn for Nanji Island because it is the only state-level marine nature reserve in China and was named one of China's 10 most beautiful islands. What is rarely known is that an experiment is being conducted on the island to solve all doubts about the use of new energy.

The Lamma Island Microgrid system is the name of this experiment. Now, this project has been selected as a national 863 demonstration project.

The encounter between an island and a microgrid on this picturesque island will soon be given new meaning due to the establishment of a microgrid system.

In order to explore an island-based energy supply program based on renewable energy use, Zhejiang Electric Power Research Institute of Electric Power cooperates with Pingyang Electric Power Co., Ltd. to build wind power, solar energy, ocean energy, and diesel power on Lamma Island according to the natural conditions of the island. Integrated wind and diesel storage "distributed power generation" integrated system with battery energy storage. This system and the island's power grid transmission and distribution system will be integrated into a microgrid system based on new energy.

The combination of Lamma Island and the microgrid is an inevitable choice.

Lamma Island is subordinated to Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, far from the mainland, with superior natural conditions and distinctive features. It has been named one of the ten most beautiful islands in China. In September 1990, approved by the State Council, it became one of China's first batch of five national nature reserves. In December 1998, it became the only marine type nature reserve that was currently included in the UNESCO World Biosphere Network.

A related person from the environmental protection department in Zhejiang Province stated that Nanji Island has a beautiful environment and very high environmental protection requirements. However, the increasing power load on the island has challenged the original power supply system on the island.

According to the information provided by Pingyang Electric Power Co., Ltd., currently, the island's power supply only relies on four diesel generators, and its energy structure is single, which not only has high power supply costs but also pollutes the environment. With the development of the island's economy, if the diesel power generation capacity continues to increase, it will have a negative impact on the island's ecological environment and does not meet the requirements of building a green power grid.

Finding an island-based energy supply program based on the use of renewable energy is the key to solving the island’s sustainable development and building an ecological island. In this context, the new energy-based Nanzhao Island microgrid system came into being.

How can the green Lamma Island Microgrid not only solve the problem of insufficient power supply, but also protect the ecological environment? The relevant units decided to build an integrated system of wind and light wood storage for wind energy, ocean energy, diesel power generation and battery storage in Nanji Island to meet the development of the island's economy and tourism.

The strong winds in Shanghai and the constant waves around it make use of wind energy and ocean energy to generate electricity. Naturally, they are taken into consideration. In non-rainy weather, where there is plenty of sunshine, solar power generation has also become the choice... The related units have fully designed the microgrid system by examining the natural conditions of the island. The installation of 12 100 kW wind turbines The 1,000-kilowatt photovoltaic power generation system and the 30- to 50-kilowatt wave energy power generation system have been built into the Nanxun Island microgrid, which focuses on new energy generation.

The most important feature of this system is to make full use of the abundant solar energy and wind energy resources of the island and to use traditional diesel power generation to provide green power for the island. Technical staff Yang Dedong said: “The construction of the Nanzhao Island microgrid project is an effective supplement to the energy supply of the Lamma Island, and customers do not need to worry about power restrictions. At the same time, due to the use of green energy, the local power companies are relieved. The pressure of environmental protection will promote the sustained and rapid development of the economy, and in return for higher overall investment efficiency and energy conversion efficiency with less capital, resources and environmental costs."

This system makes full use of wind energy, solar energy, ocean tide energy, etc. to clean renewable energy, does not generate pollutants such as air, liquids, solid waste, etc. It does not generate large noise pollution, and achieves low carbon and low emissions.

At the same time, the Nankai Island Micro-grid demonstration project introduced electric vehicles as an energy storage system, replacing all existing fuel vehicles on the island with electric vehicles, making full use of renewable energy, effectively suppressing vehicle exhaust pollution, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Save resources and protect the environment.

Fang Mingxiao, director of the Nanji Islands National Marine Reserve Management Bureau, said: “Using new energy technologies to solve power problems on such a nationally-recognized tourism island also solves the pollution and emissions problems caused by diesel power generation. The social responsibility of the power grid companies is also the promotion of energy conservation and emission reduction, which will bring huge social benefits."
