Academician Liu Yunjie pointed out that the potential of the Internet of Things is huge but there are challenges. In contrast, development in Europe and the United States is better, and the development of the Internet of Things in Asia Pacific and other countries is just starting. In particular, China has many difficulties in the development of the Internet of Things: technical and industrial capabilities are not strong, and the standard system is not perfect. For example, in terms of standards, relevant standards are relatively fragmented, and there is a lack of uniform coordination among various standards organizations. It is imperative that these standard organizations be coordinated and unified. Academician Liu emphasized in particular: "We should face up to the difficulties facing the Internet of things and the problems that need to be resolved, and we must do our work in a down-to-earth manner."

The development of the Internet of Things should focus on original innovation. The Internet of Things is an opportunity, but it should not only be considered from the perspective of industry, but also focus on original innovation to solve some practical problems. He suggested that the state should formulate a development plan for China's Internet of things from its development strategy, and through the initiation of a number of demonstration projects, it will promote the development of related industries in a planned, step-by-step manner.
