Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), a global leader in electronic design innovation, today announced the Cadence® Tensilica® HiFi audio channel for Android (Androidä). As the industry's first Android-compatible technology for licensing digital signal processors (DSPs), Tensilica's Android-specific HiFi audio channel takes advantage of the latest improvements in the KitKat version to extend battery life in smartphones and mobile devices. This technology can reduce audio processing power by up to 14 times and double the playback time of smartphones. The KitKat audio channel was developed based on the efforts of the Low Power Android Alliance (LPAC), a consortium originally founded by Tensilica. The company is now part of the Cadence IP Group.

Tensilica's dedicated HiFi audio channel can be used with any of Cadence's HiFi audio/voice DSP IP cores. By pairing with these popular HiFi DSP cores, designers can take advantage of packages from more than 125 HiFi architectures that have been developed by Cadence and over 55 partners.
