Facebook Launches New Service: Allows SMBs to Advertise for Free

Facebook, one of the largest social networking sites in the world, is now turning to emerging markets in search of more subscriber and advertising revenue growth.

Facebook said on Wednesday local time that it would allow SMEs in emerging markets to advertise for free on their homepage and sell their products.

In fact, last year, Facebook has launched a policy that allows some merchants to sell their products through paid advertisements in Facebook applications. The latest service allows small and medium-sized enterprises to use the homepage location for free advertising, making it easier for users to view the product through their homepage.

"If a company sees the value of this service from their home page, then the chance of them becoming our advertisers will increase," said Benji Shomair, director of product marketing at Facebook.

The data shows that Facebook currently has about 3 million active advertisers, and about 60 million enterprises in the world use this service to open a free homepage, hoping to contact Facebook's 1.7 billion global monthly active users.

Facebook also said that by strengthening the reliance of merchants on Facebook, it hopes that more emerging market companies will eventually become the company’s paid advertisers. This is the first step for Facebook to expand its e-commerce business in emerging markets.
