Singapore, January 17, 2014 - In order to better meet the global electronics industry's demand for innovative and reliable precision interconnect solutions, Molex is located in its Chengdu Hi-Tech Development Zone. The operation opened a new global mold center to expand the company's global mold capabilities. The 200,000-square-foot facility is designed and developed for high-tech automation and robotic molds and systems with high-precision mold capabilities.
Molex CEO MarTIn Slark pointed out that the center will support the company's growing customer base not only in Asia but also around the world.
“We continue to invest in Chengdu,†Slark said. “Chengdu is an emerging economic center in China. This high-tech facility expands Molex's global customer service capabilities to provide high-tech mold products that are needed to build customers. The innovative interconnect solution is critical."
Joe Nelligan, senior vice president of Molex's Commercial Products Group, said the new global mold center will provide a competitive advantage for the company.
Nelligan said: "Our advanced mold center has cutting-edge capabilities, providing Molex with a versatile global resource that will help us deliver new products to the market faster and respond quickly to customer needs. The center will make our molds here. The ability has increased by about two times and new high-skilled positions have been created."
Molex began operations in Chengdu in 2005 and completed the construction of a 1 million square foot facility in 2008, making it the largest operating facility in the world for Molex. So far, Molex has invested more than $160 million in operating facilities in Chengdu. Molex Chengdu manufactures more than 1 billion components per year for automotive, commercial, information technology, mobile and telecommunications applications.
