Principle of Virtual Studio System

A typical virtual studio system composition is shown in Figure 1. In the virtual studio system, the real-time extraction of camera parameters is the key. There are currently three methods for obtaining camera parameters, namely: precision mechanical / optical sensing devices, infrared / ultrasonic positioning devices, pattern recognition and feature matching methods to calculate camera parameters. Because the first two methods have problems such as installation and commissioning, complicated use, poor reliability, high cost of refitting cameras and hardware, virtual studios have been difficult to promote so far. The latter method can overcome the above problems and is an inevitable trend of the development of virtual studio technology.

Figure 1 Typical structure diagram of a virtual studio. Based on the image recognition method, the camera parameters are calculated by placing a specially made blue grid pattern in the studio. When recording a program, the image captured by the studio camera, in addition to the image of the actor itself, There is a blue grid graph carrying camera parameter information. This method uses image processing and pattern recognition methods to extract camera parameters from the blue grid pattern.
