Amers Semiconductor Releases Tristimulus Color Sensor for Accurate Measurements

On December 4th, Amys Semiconductor, a leading provider of sensor solutions, announced the release of the AS7264N tristimulus color sensor. This advanced device offers highly accurate color measurements that closely align with how the human eye perceives visible light. In addition to general color sensing, the AS7264N excels in precisely measuring blue light wavelengths—known to have significant impacts on health factors like irregular sleep patterns, accelerated eye aging, and digital eye strain. The AS7264N is housed in a compact LGA package measuring just 4.5mm x 4.7mm x 2.5mm, making it an ideal choice for integration into luminaires, smart lighting systems, and interconnected sensor networks. Its small form factor also opens up new possibilities in applications such as people-centric lighting and intelligent building management systems, where real-time environmental awareness is essential. Built upon Amys Semiconductor’s proven AS72xx platform, the AS7264N continues the legacy of high-performance optical and color sensors that span from near-ultraviolet to near-infrared spectrums. The tristimulus sensors in this family utilize a unique silicon interference filter to create independent spectral channels that match the CIE 1931 XYZ standard. The AS7264N includes two specialized blue filters that accurately capture the intensity of blue light between 440nm and 490nm, enabling precise monitoring of potentially harmful blue wavelengths. This panel-less, low-profile sensor empowers new capabilities in lighting, display technology, and smart building automation. It allows manufacturers to implement real-time color monitoring, helping them respond dynamically to the blue light exposure that users encounter throughout the day. By integrating the AS7264N, companies can enhance user comfort and well-being through smarter lighting control. Like other members of the AS72xx family, the AS7264N delivers easy-to-use digital color output via an I2C interface. Its silicon-based interference filter ensures stable performance across temperature variations and over time, eliminating the need for frequent recalibration. Additionally, the on-chip programmable LED driver enables synchronized electronic shutter control, enhancing measurement accuracy and system efficiency. Tom Griffiths, Senior Marketing Manager at Amys Semiconductor for Sensor-Driven Lighting and Spectral Sensing Engines, commented: “With its accurate color sensing and precise wavelength analysis, the AS7264N has promising photobiological benefits. It opens up a wide range of applications—from commercial and residential lighting to industrial settings. From ambient light characterization to collecting light exposure data, this sensor helps manufacturers quickly bring innovative lighting and health-focused products to market.”
