Intel 8th/9th generation CPU list exposure! Mobile version i9 appeared

[PConline News] Recently, details about Intel's 8th and 9th generation processors have surfaced through AIDA46, a well-known system information tool. The latest public beta version of the software has added several unannounced Intel CPUs, revealing potential new models. While Intel hasn't officially confirmed these details, the naming conventions appear consistent and reliable. It is speculated that these chips may be released early in 2018.

Over the past six months, the CPU market has been quite active, especially with AMD's Ryzen series launch. In response, Intel introduced Coffee Lake as a countermeasure. However, this time, Coffee Lake might not just be a minor update—it could be a full refresh of the entire family. Recent leaks from AIDA46 have given us a glimpse into the upcoming 8th and 9th generation mobile CPUs. The list also includes successors to the popular Pentium G4560, which are expected to debut at CES 2018.

The entry-level Pentium and Celeron lines are also getting updates. The Pentium series continues its hyper-threaded design, and it seems like the "Generation God U" title might be passed on to the next model. Pentium processors are likely based on Core i3 architecture but with reduced core counts. Most Pentiums will operate at 35W, while some high-performance variants may reach 65W. Meanwhile, Celeron remains low-end, with no major improvements expected.

The Core i3 lineup remains complex, but the differences between models are minimal. The main distinction is the L3 cache size—some i3-83xxx models feature 8MB, while others have 6MB. This slight variation suggests subtle performance tuning for different use cases.

The Core i5 line-up is even more extensive. Although only two models are currently available, there are numerous sub-models with variations in clock speed and TDP. Other specifications remain largely unchanged, indicating that the focus is on fine-tuning rather than major architectural changes.

For the Core i7, Intel is expected to release four additional models beyond the current two. The desktop Coffee Lake-S lineup will include a 35W low-power variant with a "T" suffix, as well as a 95W high-performance option with a "B" suffix aimed at enterprise users.

The H-series processors, particularly the Core i9, are also being teased. A 6-core, 12-thread Core i9-8950HK has been exposed, marking Intel’s first move of the i9 series to mobile platforms. Interestingly, the same core count and thread count are typically assigned to Core i7 in desktop versions, suggesting that the i9 may be reserved for high-end desktops under the "K" suffix.

As for the highly anticipated 9th generation CPUs, only a few models have been revealed so far. According to previous reports, the 9th-gen Core processors will be codenamed Ice Lake and will utilize Intel's 10nm+ process. Meanwhile, Cannon Lake, which uses 10nm technology, is reportedly limited to mobile platforms. The next desktop Core generation is expected to bring both architectural and manufacturing advancements, marking a significant step forward for Intel.
