On June 21, Linear Technology Corporation launched the LT3015, a 1.5A negative low dropout linear regulator designed for high-performance applications. This new device offers fast transient response, minimal noise, and precise current limiting, making it ideal for sensitive power supply designs. With an input voltage range of -1.8V to -30V and an adjustable output from -1.220V to -29.5V, the LT3015 uses a common emitter NPN power transistor configuration that requires just a single supply. It delivers a typical low dropout voltage of 310 mV at full load, ensuring efficient operation even under challenging conditions.

The LT3015 also features exceptionally low output voltage noise—only 60μVRMS across a 10Hz to 100kHz bandwidth—making it suitable for precision measurement systems and low-noise applications. The regulator consumes only 1.1mA in active mode and less than 1μA in shutdown, offering excellent power efficiency. Its quiescent current remains stable even during voltage drops, further enhancing reliability.

As a complement to Linear Technology's popular positive LDOs like the 1.5A LT1963A, the LT3015 is well-suited for negative logic power supplies, precision meters, industrial power systems, and post-regulated switching power supplies. Its reference amplifier topology ensures accurate DC performance and exceptional loop stability, even with small ceramic capacitors. The device is stable with as little as 10μF of output capacitance, eliminating the need for additional ESR that many other regulators require.

The LT3015 includes a bidirectional shutdown feature, allowing it to operate at both positive and negative logic levels. Additionally, its high shutdown threshold accuracy enables the SHDN pin to be used for setting programmable undervoltage lockout (UVLO) thresholds. Internal protection features include reverse output protection, foldback current limiting to keep the power transistor within safe operating limits, and hysteresis thermal management for reliable performance under stress.

The LT3015 is available in multiple package options, including a 3mm x 3mm 8-pin DFN with a back thermal pad, a 12-pin MSOP with thermal pad, a through-hole TO-220, and a surface-mount DD-Pak. It supports operating temperatures from -40°C to +125°C for Class E and Class I grades, and from -55°C to +125°C for MP grades, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.
