Linear Technology Corporation has introduced the LTC2145, a new series of ultra-low-power analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) that operate at sampling rates ranging from 14-bit and 12-bit up to 125Msps. These devices are designed to run on a single 1.8V supply, consuming as little as 1mW per channel when operating at 25Msps. This makes the LTC2145 the lowest power high-speed ADC available in the market today.
The LTC2145 family features a dual-channel simultaneous sampling, parallel output architecture, offering flexible digital output options such as full-speed CMOS, DDR CMOS, or DDR LVDS. It also includes programmable digital output timing, adjustable LVDS output current, and optional LVDS termination. At 25Msps, the 14-bit and 12-bit versions of the LTC2140 consume only 24mW per channel, while the 125Msps LTC2145 uses just 95mW per channel. Despite its low power consumption, the performance remains top-tier, with SNR exceeding 73.2dB and SFDR above 90dB for baseband signals at 14-bit resolution. The 12-bit version delivers an SNR of over 70.6dB.
This ADC family provides a pin-compatible upgrade path to the ultra-low-power LTC2185 16-bit ADC series, offering a 3dB performance boost and improved portability across various applications, including handheld test equipment, radar/LIDAR systems, medical imaging, PET/SPECT scanners, military radios, smart antenna systems, and other low-power communication systems.
Multiple rate versions are available, including 25Msps (24mW per channel), 40Msps (33mW per channel), 65Msps (46mW per channel), 80Msps (55mW per channel), 105Msps (75mW per channel), and 125Msps (95mW per channel). Additional power savings can be achieved by placing the device in standby (16mW) or shutdown (1mW) modes. With a 750MHz analog full-power bandwidth and 0.08ps RMS ultra-low jitter, the LTC2145 supports undersampling of IF frequencies with excellent noise performance.
The ADCs feature Linear Technology's digital output random function generator and alternating bit polarity (ABP) mode, which help reduce digital feedback. Available in a compact 9mm x 9mm QFN package, these devices offer flexibility for interfacing, minimizing pin count and simplifying FPGA wiring. Production quantities will be available starting in May and June this year, with demonstration boards and samples available through Linear Technology’s offices.
The dual-channel 12-bit 25Msps version is priced at $10.95 each for orders of 1,000 units. For more information about the complete product line, visit the official website.
