Silicon Labs Introduces AEC-Q100 Certified EFM8 Microcontrollers for the Automotive Market

November 23, 2016—Silicon Labs (also known as “core technology”) announced two series of automotive-grade EFM8 microcontrollers (MCUs) designed to meet a wide range of in-vehicle touch interfaces and body electronics motor control application. The AEC-Q100-certified, ultra-low-power EFM8SB1 Sleepy Bee family offers advanced on-chip capacitive touch technology that makes it easy to replace physical buttons with touch controls. The EFM8BB1/BB2 Busy Bee family features high-performance analog and digital peripherals that make these devices a versatile choice for controlling power mirrors, headlights and seats.

All EFM8 MCUs released this time are based on the 8051 core and combine different functions and performances, including high-speed pipelined 8051 core, ultra-low power, precision simulation, enhanced communication peripherals, on-chip oscillator, small package And the patented Crossbar architecture, which provides flexible digital and analog peripheral pin multiplexing to simplify printed circuit board (PCB) design and I/O pin routing.

The EFM8SB Sleepy Bee MCU Series is Silicon Labs' most energy-efficient 8-bit MCU, delivering unparalleled touch performance, ultra-low sleep mode power consumption (only 50nA in memory content hold and brownout detection enabled) and fast 2μs wake-up time . The automotive grade EFM8SB1 device supports an ambient temperature range of -40°C to +85°C with a core speed of up to 25MHz and a flash memory capacity of up to 8KB. The family of MCUs integrates a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), high-performance timers, temperature sensors, and enhanced SPI, I2C, and UART serial ports. The on-chip high-resolution capacitance-to-digital converter (CDC) provides ultra-low-power touch-wake capability (1μA) and 12 reliable capacitive touch-sensing channels that can replace physical keyswitches in many applications. The MCU is ideal for touch-based controls such as dome lights and overhead buttons. Capacitive touch control provides a more durable and moisture-proof user interface for today's electronically loaded vehicles, as well as a more stylish look.

Silicon Labs leverages the CapaciTIve Sense Library integrated into the SimplicityStudioTM development kit to support touch-sensitive interface design, providing all the logic needed to add capacitive sensing buttons to automotive applications. SimplicityStudio provides designers with firmware for immediate production, from scan buttons to noise filtering. By using the CapaciTIve Sense Profiler tool to visualize the noise levels of real-time data and capacitive touch buttons, developers can easily customize touch and non-touch thresholds and noise filtering configurations, greatly simplifying the need to add capacitive touch to the in-vehicle user interface. Difficulty.

The EFM8BB1/BB2 Busy Bee MCU series provides a good balance of performance, energy efficiency and price for cost-sensitive applications. In addition to up to 50MHz core speed and 2-64KB of flash memory, the MCUs offer a range of high-performance peripherals in packages as small as 3mm x 3mm, including high-resolution 12-bit ADCs and high-speed 12-bit modulo Converter (DAC), low power comparator, built-in reference power supply, throughput-enhanced communication peripherals, and internal oscillator. This extraordinary single-chip integrated design eliminates the need for discrete analog components while reducing system cost and board space.

With a wide temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, the EFM8BB1/BB2 devices are suitable for applications that must meet stringent automotive qualifications, operate over a wide temperature range, and provide high performance at all temperatures. The EFM8BB1 device offers the best price/performance for cost-sensitive designs, while the EFM8BB2 offers enhanced analog and digital peripheral performance. For analog-intensive automotive body control applications such as seat adjustment, fan control, window lift and fuel tank sensors, the EFM8BB1/BB2 MCU is a good choice.

Simplicity Studio's Configurator and Energy Profiler help developers accelerate the design process and optimize energy efficiency. EFM8 customers can download the Simplicity Studio tool for free from the official Silicon Labs website.

Ni-Hm Battery

The rechargeable sealed Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) cell absorbs hydrogen in the metal alloy makeup of its negative electrode during charge. As the cell is discharged, the metal alloy releases hydrogen to form water. The use of the metal alloy is the underlying reason for the high energy density of the NiMH cell compared to other chemistries. NiMH batteries have a long cycle life and good storage characteristics.

Key Features:

Production technology is mature, quality is stable and pretty safe.

Low internal resistance.

Long cycle life over 500 cycles.

Friendly to the environment: No Cadmium, Mercury effect, Lead.

Application:

Cordless Telephone, Walk-Talkie, Two Way Radio,Electric Shaver, Electric Toothbrush,Emergency Lighting, Solar Lighting,

Metering Instruments, Security Systems,Electric Toys, Electric Power Tools, Medical Device,Portable Vacuum Cleaner
