64-bit Win8 becomes the second largest game operating system

Just over a year ago, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell also said that Windows 8 was a catastrophe for everyone in the PC world. Today, the latest survey data from Valve's Steam platform shows that 64-bit Windows 8 has firmly taken second place on "Steam's most used operating system".

In July of this year, Steam collected the latest data from users willing to share its PC hardware specifications. The results show that the current usage of 64-bit Windows 8 on Steam has reached 13.34%, an increase of 1.10% from June.

The performance of 64-bit Win8 even exceeds the 32-bit Win7; the 64-bit Win7 has dropped by 1.16 percentage points.

In late July, Newell said that the launch of Windows 8 will lead many PC OEMs to "launch this market." In order to expand Steam's game library, Valve also tried to include more Linux games. However, July's data shows that compared with the overall situation, Linux is still a small part of the "niche", and the overall acceptance of Windows 8 users in the PC market is much better.

Earlier this year, Valve also stated that the company will launch a Steam game console running Linux - Steam Box. At the same time, Newell continued to step on Win8, saying that it "looks like a great tragedy," but the user's choice seems to have slapped strongly.
